Personal Injury FAQ

What should I do if I’m injured in an automobile accident?

If you are injured in an auto accident seek immediate treatment for your injuries with a medical doctor. Obtain all pertinent information at the scene of the accident such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and insurance information from the people and witnesses involved in the accident. Take photographs of the cars involved, obtain a police report and document all of your damages. Make sure you tell the police officer specifically what happened including the fact that you were injured.

What type of monetary compensation can I receive?

The law of personal injury allows you to receive economic and non-economic damages. This means that you may be able to obtain reimbursement for your past, current and future medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage as economic losses. Non-economic damages include pain, suffering, disfigurement, grief, anxiety and the loss of enjoyment of life. Each case is different and therefore your entitlement to compensation differs. A person more seriously injured, such as people that suffered paraplegia, loss of limbs, fractures, serious muscular injures and other catastrophic injuries will receive a larger award for their case. In cases of death, the heirs will be awarded compensation for loss of love, affection, companionship, moral support, comfort, care as well as economic damages consisting of financial support, funeral and burial expenses and loss of benefits received from the decedent.

What other areas does personal injury cover?

It includes wrongful death, pool drowning, premises liability, dog bites, truck and motorcycle accidents, burns and explosions, defective products and any other personal injury caused by the negligence of someone else.
